The Effector Book Magazine

☟
For over a decade I have been seeing these really cool looking magazines out of Japan that appeared to be exclusively about guitar pedals, with a an extra focus on vintage.

I first came across The Effector Book on the Effeken Blog, who lends his collection and words to each issue. The covers were always super striking to me, and the fact that enough people cared about old guitar pedals to keep a print publication going this long, I knew they had to be good.

So after more than a decade I finally picked up the two issues I was most interested in, Japanese Fuzz and Upper Octave Fuzz. Being written completely in Japanese I knew I would need some assistance from my old friend Google Lens. And it seems to work pretty well!

Each issue has a main topic that is given a full deep dive and a good amount of dedicated pages. In addition to that they review newer pedals, have interviews, and generally nerd out on all things stompbox.

I highly recommend checking these out if you're a fan of this blog. Japan has a pedal legacy almost as long as the US, and depth of amazing circuits and brands that is unmatched.

And hey, if the Japanese can support such a venture, maybe we can too... 🤔

Where's are my articles!!

so a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the table I used for the "Stompbox Articles" page had been completely reformatted and basically erased. So I took down that page as not to confuse anyone, or myself, until we could get it fixed.

After checking out the "official blogger help forum" I realized that this was a problem a lot of fellow nerds were having... but fast forward to today, and we are now, finally back in action!

So thank you google for helping out the little guys who are just trying to entertain their readers in an badass, yet organized, fashion. It is going to take me a few more hours to get it all rewritten, but the Stompbox Articles page will be up shortly.

Thanks for your patience.

Octavia, you're so unique!

☟

I recently picked up this cool old ad from 1976 for the original Tycobrahe Octavia.
I actually didn't realize that they were still making them that late into the 70s, so this was an interesting surprise...

Other than that, today was a great day for pedal pics!  So look out for some new Stompbox Articles in the coming days.

"Good Fuzzy Sounds"

☟
This is just a heads up on a cool new Zine (yes you read that right, as in a real paper DIY magazine) that is about all things fuzz, called "Good Fuzzy Sounds". It's all done by hand, with cool drawings and interviews by Simon Murphy.

Description in his own words:
...my zine, in which i unravel a few myths about the birth of fuzz and Glenn Snoddy's monster, and how Gary Hurst, the Yardbirds and Heartful of Soul beat Satisfaction to the punch. All illustrated by me, no photos, plus how I discovered fuzz, my first band, the origins of diy fuzz geekdom, a comic strip and interviews with Pepe Rush (of WEM-Rush Pepbox fame) and Devi Ever...

So as you can guess I jumped at the opportunity for one of these, received mine in the mail today and have been pretty damned entertained and school'd. I highly recommend it for anyone who is into this blog././
